Cowboys’ DeMarco Murray to play on the field for the first time this season

Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco “DeMeco” Murray will be the first Cowboys player to play in a team’s preseason opener this season.

Coach Jason Garrett said Friday that Murray will play in the team’s second preseason game, Sept. 9 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Murray, who missed last week’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles with an ankle injury, was limited in practice during the first week of the preseason.

He played in the Cowboys’ first preseason game on Aug. 30 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He scored three touchdowns.

Murray has had some injuries over the years.

He missed three games with an Achilles tendon strain in 2012 and then missed three weeks with an injury to his left knee in 2013.

He returned to the field in 2014 but was not eligible to play again.

Murray also has missed some time with knee injuries, including a hamstring injury in 2011.

Murray is the NFL’s all-time leading rusher with 1,859 yards.

He played his final game in 2014, when he was released by the New Orleans Saints.
